Six Teams Complete Inaugural Training Camps
JACKSONVILLE, FL-- In a significant step forward for the National Gridiron League, six of the league’s eight franchises successfully hosted full-team training camps this summer, marking a notable milestone in league history as coordinated preseason camps have been executed across multiple markets.
The camps ran from June 1st through June 18th, with each of the six participating teams taking advantage of the early summer window to install playbooks, evaluate player personnel, and build foundational chemistry ahead of the league’s upcoming fall exhibition season.
While football fundamentals and conditioning were a key focus, the team sessions were also an essential opportunity for coaching staffs to assess off-season roster additions and give young prospects a chance to earn roster spots. Team practices featured a combination of position drills, walk-throughs, and full-contact scrimmages in front of small groups of invited fans and local observers.
The completion of these camps signals a major step in the NGL’s growth trajectory. For a league that has steadily built momentum since announcing its full return to play in 2025, these training camps serve as both proof of organizational stability and a critical step in preparing for meaningful competition this fall.
The Charleston Pirates and Mississippi Mudcats, the only two NGL teams that did not participate in the June training camp period, are expected to resume on-field activities later this summer. Both franchises delayed their schedules due to late coaching staff transitions in May, necessitating adjustments to their offseason timelines. Despite the temporary setbacks, both teams remain committed to returning to full practice in time for fall preparation.
All eight NGL teams are now looking ahead to the fall exhibition season, which kicks off Saturday, October 4. Each team is slated to participate in three exhibition games over the course of the month, providing players, coaches, and fans with great professional football action.
With teams set to reconvene for fall practices in the coming weeks, the NGL continues its push forward with team activities set for September through January in preparation for the spring season. As rosters sharpen and systems take hold, the competitive landscape of the league will take shape.
